The Iron King by Julie Kagwa follows Meghan as she travels into the never never to rescue her brother. While there she encounters many creatures and the Faeries from A Midsummer Nights Dream. The book is exciting and Meghan is a very strong character who is tricky and smart and won't let anything stand in her way.
One of the best things that teen literature can do is to encourage teens to read more and to explore even more difficult literature in the same genre. This book uses the characters from A Midsummer Nights Dream without the reader needing to know anything about the story. This will hopefully encourage the readers to watch or read the classic that it borrows from (which would make their English teachers jump for joy).
Appropriateness: There is nothing in this book that will irritate parents. There is no sex, no drinking no drugs and no graphic violence.
Nice review :) I've really enjoyed the Iron King series so far.
