Overbite by Meg Cabot is the sequel to Insatiable which stars Meena, a woman who has the power to tell when someone will die. The men in her life include Jason her brother, Aleric a vampire hunter in the Palatine Guard and Lucen the vampire king. This book starts with Meena meeting her ex-boyfriend who ends up being a vampire. She is rescued by Lucen which causes all sorts of conflict with her employer The Palatine Guard.
This book was not what I expect when I read a Meg Cabot. I own every book she has written and love her entertaining style. This book was different. It seemed to plod through the plot without much humor (it was missing much of the humor that was present in the first book) and without much romance. I didn't find myself caring about any of the characters enough to keep me interested and I found myself having to force myself through some of the sections. Readers who really like urban fantasy may enjoy the book but this is in no way the light comedic romance I expected. This book had an ending with quite a bit of finality that made it seem like there will not be another book in the series.
Appropriateness: Meg's YA readers will be able to read this book with little to make them (or their parents) worry. While the previous book in the series had some sex this book was sex free and there was no substance abuse (except for a drunk vampire) or even massive amounts of violence.
