Stolen

Stolen tells the story of Gemma who is kidnapped and taken to the Australian Outback by creepy Ty who has been stalking her since she was ten.  Emma slowly develops a relationship with Ty and becomes sympathetic to his problems and believing of the stories he tells her about her family developing full fledged Stockholm Syndrome.  The story follows Gemma from her initial kidnapping to the trial that follows after she escapes and has a satisfying ending.  The outback environment is described beautifully and is a character of it's own.

The story is written as a letter to Ty and this choice was the major negative of the book.  Ty is referred to as You at least three times as the start of a sentence in most paragraphs and it became very distracting and this almost made me put the book down. 

Appropriateness: This book is appropriate for middle to high school readers.  There was one scene where the heroine drinks a large amount of run, a mention of underage drinking with friends in a flashback.  There is no sex and the treatment that Gemma receives from her captor is not cruel.  Although it may make a reader look for someone following them there are no scenes of torture or rape.
