The Question is. . . .

Q. In books like the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series the paranormal creature in question "comes out of the closet" and makes itself known to the world. Which mythical creature do you wish would come out of the closet, for real?

A. I'd love something that has their own little world that could open into our.  Faeries or Mermaids

The Question is. . . .

Q. Let's step away from besties...What is the worst book that you've ever read and actually finished?

Can I count The Scarlett Letter that I was forced to read in High School.  How about the time I sat through Waiting for Godot.

I'll think about it and post something later.  (did you also detest The Scarlett Letter?)

The Question is. . . .

Q. ACK! Your favorite book/movie character (example Hermione Granger played by the Emma chick) just walked into the room! Who is it and what would be your first reaction? You get extra points if you include visual stimulation.

So I'm on this Roswell kick right now (free on netflix).  If Max Evans walked into the room (and I was 16) I would totally go dreamy eyed and want to be his Liz.

The actor didn't age that well though so no current picture of him. . .

The question this week is. . .

What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?

I need a plot that moves and characters that I care about.  I don't care how interesting the characters are if nothing ever happens to them and they don't do anything I'm bored.

The Question is. . . .

Q. In light of the Summer Solstice. Also known as Midsummer...let's talk about fairies. What is your favorite fairy tale or story that revolves around the fae?

I'm in love with East of the Sun West of the Moon.  I wasn't aware of it until recently when I read a couple YA books based on the tale and fell in love.  It's got the most kickass heroine who saves her prince and her family.  No rescuing needed

The question this week is. . .

“When did you realize reading was your passion and a truly important part of your life?”

I've always read and loved reading.  Even when I was super busy I would read a couple pages before bed and while in the bathtub.

The Question is. . . .

Keeping with the dystopian and apocalypse theme that seems to be running rampant on parajunkee.com, I have one very hard question for you: If you were stocking your bomb shelter, what books would you HAVE to include if you only had space for ten?

Ten?  They'd have to be very long books.

Gone with the Wind, my favorite along with the sequel Scarlett.  I'd probably add a couple classics like Forever Amber (which I remember liking when I was a kid but don't remember the plot) and some Jane Austin books that I'm not familiar with so I'd have something new.

The question this week is. . .
"If you find a book you love, do you hunt down other books by the same author?"

Yes, I've always done this.  If I like a book then I go out and buy everything they've written.

The Question is. . . .

Q. Do you have anyone that you can discuss books with IRL? Tell us about him/her.

Well, I had a real literary discussion with my seven year old daughter (your mini reviewer) about Percy Jackson a while ago.  She's OBSESSED.  I talk to my husband about my books and sometimes my mother.  There isn't anyone that I know off line that reads like I do.

The question this week is. . .
"Pick a character from a book you are currently reading or have just finished and tell us about him/her."

I just finished an ARC of Aliens on Vacation which is a wonderful middle grade novel about a boy who spends his summer at his grandmothers hotel for aliens.  Scrub starts out his summer as a boy who spends most of his time playing with his friends and doing crazy stunts to impress them.  His grandmother gives him responsibility at her hotel and he is excited to be needed and to have someone realize that he's capable of helping out.

Happy hop day everyone.

This week I reviewed DivergentThe Dark and Hollow Places, a craft book called Play All DayEntwinedBitter EndBirthmarked, and America Pacifica (review to be posted Friday).

What is the book that you really don't want to admit to loving??

I was obsessed with VC Andrews when I was in high school and college.  I'd buy the books when they showed up at the supermarket and read them over and over and over.

The question this week is. . .
"Since today is April Fool's Day in the USA, what is the best prank you have ever played on someone OR that someone has played on you?"

When I was in college the directors were always very slow at putting the cast lists up after auditions.  Sometimes we would audition in January and the list wouldn't go up till March.  Every day as soon as you got to the building you would have to go right to the board to see if the list would be posted yet.  So one day my roommate and I made up a fake cast list for The Marriage of Figaro.  We cast our teachers as all the parts and even included extra roles like Yoda for some of them.  Everyone was talking about it all morning and no one even suspected it was us and was sure that one of the well known jokesters had done it.

When I teach I enjoy seeing what I can get the kids to believe.  I once had a first grader ask why I always wore dresses (I did wear jeans on Fridays) I told them that I wore them because I was a mermaid and my legs were stuck together so I couldn't wear pants.  They believed me for about five minutes.

While subbing I got sick of answering I don't know to kids when they asked me where they teacher was so I started making up outlandish things to see what reaction I'd get.  I told a group of high school freshman that their teacher was at space camp and they believed me, I'm sure their teacher was amused the next day. . .

The question this week is. .

Q. How did you come up with your blog name?

I wanted somthing simple and descriptive and easy to remember.  I think I got it with books your kids will love.

The question this week is. . .

"Do you read only one book at a time, or do you have several going at once?"

I only read one book at a time and if I stop reading a book I rarely pick it back up.  This is a big part of the reason I never enjoyed reading for school assignments when I was in school.  Reading a book a chapter at a time never worked for me.

The question this week is. .

Q. Just like Ashley said (love it) "Ashley the girl..." who are You the Boy/Girl, instead of You the Blogger?

I'm an out of work music teacher, mom and military spouse currently living in the Detroit metro area.  The recession has music teacher jobs impossible to find where I live so I'm staying home and volunteering until my husband gets orders for us to move someplace else (hopefully where there's a shortage of elementary school music teachers.  I spend a lot of time reading and watching old TV shows and I deliver meals for Meals on Wheels several times a month.  I'm so good at picking out books for kids who hate to read that I decided I should start a blog in addition to the reviews I already post at amazon.

Today's question is

What embarrassing thing have you done on cold medicine?

I don't think I have an answer for that one, cold medicine has never caused me to have a reaction other than being very sleepy.  I had a roommate in college that took some once and it made her hallucinate so that was kind of weird.

Q. Share your current fav television show! Tell us a bit about it...

I've been very into Dr Who lately.  The first four seasons are on netflix or amazon for free download and it's fun to have on in the background and it's kid safe, no sexual content or excessive violence so I can have it on when my daughter is up (or she can watch it with me).
