Bitter End

Jennifer Brown's Bitter End is the story of a young girl in an abusive relationship.  When Alex meets Cole everything seems perfect.  Things with Cole move very fast and when he becomes angry when she spends time with her best guy friend she excuses it, what guy would want his girlfriend hanging out with another guy.  Then insults and pinches turn to punches and control of her entire life.

I really enjoyed this book and see it as a great teaching tool for girls as to what the warning factors are in an abusive relationship.  While the book did at times remind me of a Lifetime TV Movie or after school special the characters were very relateable and Alex's thoughts behind her actions seem realistic.

Appropriateness:  This novel has alcohol use, sexual content (although not descriptive) and an abusive relationship.  None of these behaviors are shown in a positive manner and it's a good piece for parents to discuss with their daughters and to discuss the warning factors of abusive relationships.

ARC received from publisher Release date in early May
