Spellbound by Cara Lynn Shultz stars Emma who comes to live with her Aunt after the deaths of her mother and brother. Emma was injured in car accident in which her stepfather was driving drunk. Emma starts school with her cousin Ashley at a fancy New York co-ed private school where she has to deal with nasty mean girls and boys and other high school hijinks including Brendan whom she has been having strange dreams about. There's a strange pendant and an eternal love with an eternal curse.
This book started out slowly, there was a little to much daily high school repetition. However, about half way through the book started to get interesting and when Brendan and Emma were together it finally clicked. Her friend the witch Angelique is fun and the fairy story from which the mystery came from was great.
Appropriateness: There was talk of sex but no actual sex. There was some underage drinking which was portrayed as reckless and stupid. I would recommend this book to fans of paranormal romance aged 14+ (although it's not inappropriate for middle school audiences).
