Devil's Kiss

Devil's Kiss by Sarwat Chadda follows Billi the youngest and only female member of the Knights Templar.  The Knights Templar protect the human world from evil soulless creatures that roam the earth.  Billi is a tough girl who has lived a tough life with a father who cares more for the Templar's than for her. She finds herself fighting a war against the dark Angels who wish to bring a plague back to earth.

I had mixed feelings about this book, there were portions that were brilliant and the fight scenes were spectacular.  Likewise the mythology was complex and unique.  What was really missing was characters that were three dimensional and interesting and a social story to fill out Billie's life.  There was a huge amount of exposition and that may have been the problem with the book.  I have a copy of Dark Goddess (A Devil's Kiss Novel) the sequel to Devil's Kiss which I will read in a week or two, hopefully I will like it more.

Appropriateness:  This book is very dark and violent with a fairly complex mythology.  The lexile is 620 putting it at around a fourth grade reading level.  While there isn't any adult content I'd put the interest level at 14+.

I won this novel in a contest on Mundie Mom's
